Frequently asked questions

What is the Lemegeton?

"The Lesser Key of Solomon", a 17th-century English grimoire in five books: the Ars Goetia (72 demons), Ars Theurgia-Goetia, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel and Ars Notoria. You'll find them all here as facsimiles and translated.

Are the grimoires free?

Yes. Every edition is public-domain: you can read it online and download the PDF with no sign-up or payment. Our transcription and translation are released under a CC-BY 4.0 licence.

Where do the transcriptions come from?

From the original manuscript facsimiles (British Library Sloane, Wellcome, Folger, etc.). We transcribe from the image, expand abbreviations in [brackets] and mark doubtful readings with [?]; we copy no copyrighted modern edition.

What languages are they in?

Each book shows its original text next to our translation, folio by folio — into Spanish, and into English for most editions.
