The science of magical talismans and rings — Le Bailly, 19th c.
La Poule Noire (The Black Pullet / the Black Hen): the grimoire of magical talismans and rings. Framed as a tale —a Napoleonic officer in Egypt, saved by an old man among the pyramids who reveals to him a science that escaped the burning of the Library of Alexandria—, it teaches how to make and command its talismans and rings, and the secret of the black hen that yields gold. Our own transcription of the French of the Le Bailly edition (Paris, 19th c.; with the false «1740» imprint) —public domain (Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève)— with each page's facsimile and the original engraved talisman plates alongside our transcription and translation. It is a work distinct from the Grand Grimoire (Red Dragon), though the two are often confused: the latter only carries a short «poule noire recipe». Historical, educational material.
