your Angelicall Instincts & Inclinations, into the Luminous pathway of

Truth; Leading unto, & giving Entrance into the ports, Cities & pallaces

Assistance, in whatsoever truth & subject matter, or thing Appertaining

thereunto; in all wisdome & true Science both Celestiall & terrestriall,

& that shall be necessary for us & also as any other Emergent occasion shall

Duly & properly Require to the advancement & setting forth of Gods Glory,

& the improvement of our welfare & Comfort, & benefit of our worldly

and temporall Estates & Condition, whilst we yet Live, & sojourn in all such

matters or things whatsoever they that shall be necessary for us to know

and Enjoy, Even beyond what we are able to ask or think; which the Almighty

giver of all good gifts, shall in his bountifull & paternall Mercy be

graciously pleased, thereby to give yd to reveal & shew forth unto us,

or otherwise to bestow upon us: O you great Angel, or Blessed Intelligence

Metratton, and all other you Celestiall Angels of the order of Seraphims

Mediums of Divine Grace & mercy, Ministers of true Light & understanding

Let this foregoing invocation, be Devoutly & Seriously Read & uttered then,

Make a pause, for about nine Minnits of time; which is a little more

then halfe a Quarter of An houre, And if nothing yet appeare neither

within the C:S or C:R: or otherwise out of them to Visible appearance

then Read with good Devotion, & Serious Observance as aforesaid

Some further instructions,

Who on Invocation, & Replication, thereunto is amply Made according to

time Method, & order, & the Celestiall Angel, or Intelligence thereby

moved Doth appeare, or any other angel or Intelligence of the same

Hierarchy, then marke & observe well the manner, shape, form, Corporall

Gesture, Vestments, & foregoing signe thereof, & if in all Symbolicall

Likenesses, & probable Symtoms, the Apparition seemeth to be no deceipt

or otherwise Conjectured, then what is from thence to be Expected,

although that very Intelligence which was moved & Called forth

by name, doth not appeare, by Reason it is of the upper Order

whether are allowed to Visible appearances, but of Especiall grace

Divine pleasure crossed out imediately unto theye & those illegible

performe what favour shall be Requested, according to its nature and office,

It cannot be Unknowne to any Discreet magician, but when ever any

Good Angel or Celestiall intelligence, is moved or Called forth to Visible

Appearance, but also that all Evill spirits & infernall powers of Darkness

and Immediately ready to incroach, & appeare in the Roome, or stead of the

Good Angels, wherefore it behoveth to be very Carefull & greatly Observing

thereof, both the Methode & manner, how to know & Rightly to Distinguish

the appearance of Good Angells or spirits, from those that are evill,

with These of them (that is to Say.) how to Receive Good Angels in their

Appearance, & how to Vanquish & banish Evill spirits when they Intrude

and Enter into place & presence to deceive & overthrow us, we have

sufficiently at Large in sorto & shewed forth in our Isagogicall

preface, before Annexed hereunto, therefore we shall in this place

onely shew forth a Methode, of our greeting the Apparition of any Celestiall

Angel, or Sign: first premise of Light: ----------------

When by all the preceding signes, that Appearance is truly known

to be Celestiall & of Good; then humbly receive it with Ample Submission

& Congratulation, Saying as followeth:--

Veni o [divine] light of the highest Excellence oo the Messengers

of Divine grace & mercy unto us the true servants & worshippers

At this Appearance is manifestly knowne, and Understood, & by all signes

& tokens perfectly Knowne, to be Celestiall or Angelicall powers of Light,

then with due & reverent Observance Say as followeth. ----

O yᵉ Servants or Messengers, of Divine grace & mercy, ye Celestiall Angells

or Intelligences powers of Light, or Dignified Elomental spirits,

& Mediums of Benevolence to Mankind, Servants of God, yᵉ both

now and at this time, alwayes are & shall be unto us, truly & Sinc-

rely welcome humbly Desiring you also to be friendly to us, & Doe

for us, in whatsoever It shall please God to give, by yᵒʳ Order & office

unto us, for the better Knowledge & benefit of mankind, Liveing here

upon Earth; & to make us partakers of true Science & Sapience,

In the undefiled & Sacred wisdome of yᵉ Creation

And, if any Answer Should be made hereupon, or any Discourse from

thence should arise, proceed therein, then both wisdome & Reason,

must be the principall Conduct, in the Management thereof but if

there be Silence, & that no Discourse ariseth from thence, then begin

to make some fitt Request, for Answer to yᵒʳ Desires & propositions;

then will the effects of all things, be undoubtdly, with Good Successe

Determined.

But if there be had, any fear, Doubt or Misperswasion, or Just Cause

of Jealousie to be had or made of some Expected Apparition, of any Angell

or Intelligence of the Celestiall Orders, or other [Dignified] [powers]

through non appearance, or Contrary Signes going before, or Deformed

Shapes in appearance, or Severall Such Like Ill Consequences &c;

or otherwise if at any time there Should appear a spirit, which may

be thought is not of Good, nor of the Order moved, that there be any

mistrust of it, the which may be Easily perceived by its forme, Gesture,

Motion & similitude, & also by Its Answering, to any Discourse

or Questions made, then may be said thus to it as followeth:

In the name of Jesus who art thou (then perhaps it will say I am

the servant of God (then yᵈ may say) art yᵒᵘ some [poor spirit],

or art thou sent from him with good tydings or Message; (then

perhaps it will say to yᵉ, or some Such Like words) that I am hee

knoweth, of whom I bear witnesse / then yᵈ may ask its name;

or other Elementall spirits or powers of Light, Angelically or Celes-

tially Dignified, And for the Knowledge Vanquishing & Driveing

away of all Evill spirits, & informall powers of Darknesse, therefore

any Such Apparitions Shall forcibly Intrude or make outward

and Appearance instead of Celestiall or good Angells, or other

Dignified Elementall powers of Light, in the time & place of

their Actions, purposely to Deceive, Confound & thereby (if possible)

to Destroy the hopes, Expectations & benefits of the Sophick

Philosophers, in their Elaberate Industry, & Care & Earnest Addresses

unto the Celestiall Angells, or blessed Intelligences, or Dignified

Elementall powers or other spirituall Mediums or messages

of Divine light; for the true Knowledge & finding out the

of all Physicall & Metaphysicall Arcanums, secrets in

Superioribus

In Superiori: If you found Misteryes: which Cannot otherwise be known

or found out, but by the Divine Light & Conduct of Angelicall Ministry,

or other spirituall Revelation, & Instruction, by Such Mediums of Bene-

volency to Mankind, & through the Divine Grace Mercy & goodness of yᵉ

highest, and by nature Order & office, thereunto, preordinately Decreed

& appointed.

But as touching, the Intelligary further of this Matter, we think it need-

less, Since it is fully treated of in the foregoing preface, wᶜʰ no advice

to be well understood, by a due & serious Consideration, before

any progress, or unadvised proceedings are made therein ----

Observe also, that Whereas we have Severally, & particularly mentioned

Celestiall Angells or Blessed Intelligencies & Elementall powers

of Light, & other Dignified spirits, of Light, wᶜʰ are by nature &

office good, & also friendly & benevolent unto Mankinde, & have treated

of them in a generall Sence & without Materiall Distinction, yet

of the grave & Sober Magician take notice, that Consideration be

first had of what Angell, or Intelligence, or what spirit, by what

Order, & office, is moved or call forth; & so in particular to

one Revolution thereof accordingly, & not otherwise, whereunto

Every thing ought by Ordinations, Degrees, & offices, properly to be

Referred.
